I love these colors... pretty robin egg blue and cream. The flower is a "Forget-Me-Not," which was inspired by a vintage pattern. This is an original design, and after a year of procrastinating, I finally wrote the pattern down and it is available for purchase. Here's some information about the pattern, followed by the Paypal button to purchase. It really is a quite simple pattern, and works up quickly.

These Victorian Charm Fingerless Gloves are not only pretty, but practical as well! And the little flower embellishment gives them just the right touch of whimsy. They're the perfect fresh and feminine design for those chilly days! And these gloves look just as nice crocheted with one color yarn as they do with two!

Pattern includes instructions for 3 sizes: Women's Large, Child, and Toddler. Sizes are approximate, and may be adjusted by experimenting with different sizes of yarn and crochet hooks to suit your individual sizing needs.

If any of you like to do scrap booking, chances are you have a Cricut. And, let's face it... those machines are not that easy on the eyes! So why not cover them up with a cheerful and pretty cozy?

These cozies are quilted and they fit like a glove. She makes cozies for Expression, Cake, Create/Personal Cutter, Cuttlebug, Jukebox, Gypsies, and cord bags. And she also takes orders for custom cozies if there is a particular color or print that you would like. And these would make great Christmas presents for your favorite crafter!

I stumbled upon this vintage pattern recently, and I think I've found my new favorite baby set! I mean, honestly... is it possible for a crochet baby set to even get any cuter than this??? I think not!

I especially like the tiny white crochet flowers that embellish the sweater, bonnet, mittens, and booties. And I absolutely love the floral crochet baby afghan! I've never seen an afghan quite like it, and I've totally fallen in love with it.

Christmas in August?

I was recently looking through some vintage doily patterns, and these pretties from 1950 quickly caught my eye!

They are lovely Holly Wreath Doilies, and I'm so glad there is still plenty of time to crochet some of these to give as Christmas presents this year!

If you look closely, you can see on the second photo that there are two different centers for the two doilies shown. I still don't know which center I like the best. I guess I'll have to make both variations and then decide!

This PATTERN is for a delightfully soft blanket crocheted with sweet shades of pink, aqua, green, chocolate brown, and vanilla cream. The pattern is a modern take on the classic Granny Square, featuring a pinwheel in the center of each motif for a bit of whimsy. The vanilla cream scalloped edging is the perfect finishing touch to this cozy afghan.

Pattern includes instructions for motifs and includes the exact color combination of all 77 motifs, so you will not have to think about color arrangement at all. It's already been done for you!

I completed my first pillow cover recently. I decided to crochet simple Granny Square motifs in one of my favorite color combinations... red, white, and robin egg blue.

I really enjoyed making this pillow cover, and hope to make more soon. I think I'll experiment a bit. Perhaps a floral pillow cover will be next!

These cute little crochet bookmarks make me want to go grab a book and read something! (Kind of reminds me of that line in "Sweet Home Alabama" where Candace Bergen says, "Why don't you go back to your double-wide and fry something? lol) But... back to the bookmarks... lol

I just finished crocheting 75 of these Blooming Bookmarks for a church in PA. They're going to give each mother one at their Mother's Day service. I think these would be lovely shower/party favors as well.

Cozies, Coasters, and Cups... Oh My!

Today I'm going to share 4 of my newest vintage crochet pattern favorites.

They are all absolutely adorable, and I can't wait to get busy crocheting them!

First off... Tiny Tea Cups and Saucers. These would be perfect to house tiny treasures, earrings... even paper clips! And, of course... they would be the perfect play tea party set for a lucky little girl!

Next up are these lovely Glass Cozy Coasters. They're a cozy and a coaster all-in-one. And they're pretty darn cute, too!

And what's not to love about these pretty crochet Flower Coasters??? Again... simply adorable! And they would definitely be gorgeous appliques!

And last but not least... this beautiful knitted Petunia Teapot Cozy! Seeing this photo really makes me wish that I could knit... and that I was more of a tea-drinker. hehe The body of the Teapot Cozy is knitted... and the petunias are crocheted. I love, love, love this pattern!

Plum Pudding Granny Square Afghan

Remember the first "Plum Pudding" Granny Square afghan I crocheted? Well... I recently completed another LARGER "Plum Pudding" afghan as a custom order for the same lady who bought the original afghan. I guess she liked the first one so much she wanted another one. hehe

She really is a super lady... and it truly was a pleasure crocheting another afghan for someone who loved the first one just as much as I did. But it's getting really hard to part with these babies! I REALLY need to crochet a Granny Square afghan for myself in these colors. But I think I need to give my fingers a rest first. hehe

How yummy! One of my favorite desserts, chocolate cupcakes, topped with icing that's been swirled (crocheted) to resemble my favorite flower... a rose!

I crocheted 14 cupcakes, and the total length of the scarf is 78", and it's 4" wide. Now... I just need to sit down and write a pattern for it. SO much easier said than done!

Yes! These are cookies!

The yummiest, Soft Sugar Cookies I have ever eaten!

Perfect for the holidays!

Soft Sugar Cookies

(These are a drop cookie... no rolling required!)

Cream together the following 3 ingredients until light and fluffy.

2/3 cup shortening
2/3 cup SOFT butter (do not melt)
1 1/2 cups sugar

Add the following ingredients to creamed mixture and mix well.

2 eggs
3 t. vanilla extract
1 t. salt
2 t. baking powder

Gently fold in the following ingredient. Do not over-mix.

3 1/2 cups flour

Use a small melon scoop to measure out the dough, and roll into small balls. Roll cookie dough balls in sugar (colored decorator sugar would be nice). Place sugared cookie dough balls on ungreased cookie sheet, and bake at 350 F for 10 minutes.

Makes 6 dozen cookies.

I found the PATTERN for the floral motif at BEV'S COUNTRY COTTAGE, and incorporated it with some regular granny squares. The green round on the yellow and pink granny squares was done in hdc so those squares would be the same size as the floral motifs.

I love crocheting with fine thread and a size 5 steel crochet hook. Here are two of my recently completed projects.

A pretty flower bookmark...

I'm going to make more of these in various colors. I like the idea of turning something plain and ordinary... like a bookmark... into something special and pretty. The patterns for the flowers and the leaves came from an old crochet book that my mother bought decades ago. The blue flower is a Forget-Me-Not... and reminds me of her.

My most recent crocheted doily...

The design reminds me of the whirly toys I used to get as a child. You know... those pretty, shiny, whirly things on a stick that turn when you blow on them.

Soup's On!

Here's all you need for a hearty soup that is
both yummy and nutritious!
(Recipe listed at end of post.)

Step 1: Cut the zucchini into bite-sized pieces.

2. Step 2: Peel carrots and slice into bite-sized pieces.

Step 3: Chop onion into bite-sized pieces.

Step 4: Cut chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces.

Step 5: Put your soup pot on the stove
and turn heat to medium high.
Pour in olive oil, and when pot is hot,
add your chicken pieces.
Sprinkle on some ground black pepper,
and stir fry for 10 minutes.

Step 6: Add your vegetables to the pot.
(I also added 1 T. minced garlic.)
Stir fry for 5 minutes.

This is what it will look like after 5 minutes.

Step 7: Pour in the chicken broth.

Step 8: Pour in the diced tomatoes.

Step 9: Stir everything together, put lid
on pot, and bring to a boil.

Step 10: Now that it's come to a boil, reduce heat to low.
Cover, and simmer for 30 minutes.
Stir every few minutes.
Enjoy the fabulous aroma that is filling your kitchen!

Now, this soup is delicious if you want to eat it right away. But I HIGHLY recommend making this soup the day BEFORE you want to eat it. The flavors blend together and are enhanced SO much more by doing this. Trust me... it is well worth the wait. Just allow the soup to cool, place in the fridge overnight, and reheat the next day.

Italian Chicken Vegetable Soup

2 T. olive oil
24 oz. boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 medium onion, chopped
5 medium carrots, peeled and cut into bite-sized pieces
2 medium zucchini, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 T. canned minced garlic
1/2 t. ground black pepper
2 (14.5 oz) cans chicken broth
2 (14.5 oz.) cans Italian-style diced tomatoes with garlic, basil, and oregano (I used Great Value tomatoes from Walmart. These tomatoes are so yummy you can eat them straight from the can.)

In a large soup pot, heat olive oil over medium high heat. Add chicken, sprinkle with pepper, and stir fry for 10 minutes. Add veggies and garlic and stir-fry 5 more minutes. Add chicken broth and tomatoes. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover pot, and simmer for 30 minutes. If desired, top soup with freshly grated parmesan cheese before serving.

Serve with warm dinner rolls. Mmm!

12 hard-boiled eggs, peeled
2 (15 0z.) cans of red beets
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. vinegar (apple cider or white)

Drain liquid from beats into saucepan. Stir in sugar and vinegar. Bring to a boil, and then reduce heat to low and simmer 10-15 minutes.

Put eggs and beets into large jar or container of your choice. Pour the beat juice mixture over the beets and eggs. Put lid on container and refrigerate for at least one day before eating. (They taste best after a few days.)

Best Brownies Ever!

Yummiest Brownies Ever

1 cup butter, melted
2 cups white sugar
4 eggs
1 cup self-rising flour
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9" x 13" cake pan with cooking spray.

In a medium bowl, stir together the butter, cocoa, vanilla, salt, and sugar. Add eggs, and mix well. Stir flour into the sugar mixture. Stir in walnuts if desired. Spread evenly into the prepared pan. (Batter will be thick.)
Bake for 40-45 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are firm. Cool before cutting into squares.

Note: Make sure you use self-rising flour and not all-purpose flour for this recipe.

Babes in Iceland

I just had to share this pic with you. These frigid little babes were the stars at a recent baby shower. Each guest received a cup of punch which contained one of these ice-encased infants. The guest whose baby freed itself first from its icy prison, without any help from its "mom," won a prize. Too cute!

And isn't this little rocking horse cake just adorable? It's a creation of my wonderfully talented sister, Kathy. And what could be better than an adorable little rocking horse cake, you might ask?

Why, a second adorable little rocking horse cake, of course! Hold on. It gets better. It really does!

May I present...TWO adorable little rocking horse cakes (or at least part of them...hehe) and a TOWER of cupcakes frosted with fluffy pink frosting! It doesn't get any better than that, girlfriends. It really doesn't. (Oh...I am SO in the mood to make cupcakes now! Beautiful cupcakes with fluffy pink frosting...what bliss!)
